For more than a century, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) scientists, technicians and staff have been working to create better opportunities for farmers and all Canadians through agricultural research and innovation. From developing hardy new crop varieties that could flourish in Canadian climate in the early days of the 20th century to being shoulder to shoulder with the farmers in the field ¨C helping to battle the dust bowl conditions of the 1930s AAFC has always helped Canadian agriculture and the Canadian economy overcome challenges and seize new opportunities.
Today, the challenges facing the agriculture sector ¨C invasive species, environmental sustainability, a competitive international marketplace, growing consumer demand for healthy food choices ¨C are no less daunting and make us even more determined to continue working with our industry and public sector partners to find the best possible solutions through science, innovation and technology.
AAFC is aligning its research, development and technology transfer to better serve Canadians, farmers and industry by approaching the challenges and opportunities - agronomic, economic and environmental ¨C in an integrated way.
