The Canadian building sector can make a significant contribution to the reduction of Canada’s greenhouse gases. Nearly half a million commercial and institutional establishments in Canada provide spaces for our education, healthcare, government and business services. Commercial and institutional buildings represent 14% of end-use energy consumption and 13% of the country’s carbon emissions.
Energy efficiency is a proven strategy to lower emissions, reduce energy use and costs. Despite this, many Canadian building owners and mangers have not taken advantage of the gains to be made by becoming more energy efficient. Energy-efficient technologies, know-how and processes available today are a significant opportunity to reduce costs, improve operating performance and increase occupant comfort while contributing to a cleaner environment.
Through its ecoENERGY Efficiency for Buildings program, the Office of Energy Efficiency can provide you with the information and resources you need to become more energy efficient.
